How to make a sound greeting card with your own voice

Ton-Grußkarte mit eigener Stimme gestalten: So geht’s

A sound greeting card plays a personal recording when opened. With Renkly, you can record a short message directly into the Standard card or use a prepared MP3 file with the Premium card. Your cover design and audio message are two separate parts of personalization.

1. Choose the right sound greeting card

The Standard sound greeting card is suitable for a spontaneous spoken greeting: record directly into the card after delivery, with up to approximately 30 seconds of recording time. To use an existing voice recording, music or several edited greetings, choose the Premium sound greeting card with MP3 and Micro-USB.

Read our Standard versus Premium comparison for help choosing.

2. Prepare your message

Before recording, decide who you are addressing, which shared memory you want to mention and what you want to wish them. A short, natural message often feels more personal than reading a long script.

  • Record in a quiet room and avoid background music while recording speech.
  • Speak clearly and listen to the whole recording before ordering.
  • For Premium, save or export your finished file as MP3. Simply renaming another file extension does not convert it.
  • The Premium card has 7.96 MB of storage according to its product specifications. Playback length depends on file size and bitrate, so check your finished file.

3. Decide who will load the MP3 onto the Premium card

Open the Premium product page and select “Personalize now”. You can ask Renkly to load your music or voice recording, or transfer the file yourself via Micro-USB after delivery.

  1. If you want Renkly to load the file: choose this option and upload your finished MP3.
  2. Confirm your selected file in the upload window. Continue only once the upload is complete.
  3. Then continue to the cover design.

If you prefer to transfer the file yourself, you can go to the cover designer without uploading an MP3 first. Loading a finished audio file is an optional, free service; commissioning a custom design is a separate service.

4. Design and check your cover

Use a clear photo and a short text, such as a name, date or dedication. Before continuing, check spelling, cropping and placement in the preview. A photo uploaded for the cover does not replace the MP3 file.

Confirm your design in the editor, then review your details in the cart before completing your order.

5. Check the card before giving it

For Standard, record your message directly using the recording button. For Premium, transfer your MP3 yourself if you selected that option. Follow the instructions supplied with your card. Then open the card and listen to the entire message.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a voice recording from my phone?

Yes, with Premium, if you provide it as a suitable MP3 file. Check the export format of your recording app: not every voice recording is already an MP3.

Do I have to upload my file when ordering?

No. With Premium, you can transfer it yourself via Micro-USB after delivery. With Standard, you record directly into the card.

Can I change the recording later?

Yes. Standard allows a new recording, while Premium lets you replace the MP3 file. This replaces the previous message.
